Add Haikou Meilan International Airport

“Soaring from the South of the Sea, Pursuing the Dream of a Free Trade Port.” As the gateway airport to the Free Trade Port, Haikou Meilan International Airport (HAK)—proud of its service, centered on its hub function, and driven by integration—was awarded a Five-Star Airport rating and named the Best Regional Airport in China in the 2024 Skytrax rankings.

Hainan is currently the only province in China that has proactively opened up Fifth and Seventh Freedoms of the Air and stopover rights. In December 2025, the nation’s first passenger route utilizing Seventh Freedom of the Air—the “Sanya–Prague” route—was officially launched and operated by Kazakhstan’s Skart Airlines.

Following Sanya’s pioneering success, in 2026, Hainan Province explicitly proposed accelerating the development of an aviation regional gateway hub facing the Pacific and Indian Oceans. It issued the “Action Plan for Building Haikou Meilan International Airport into an Aviation Regional Gateway Hub Facing the Two Oceans,” focusing on consolidating and expanding Seventh Freedom routes and aiming to reach 100 international passenger routes.

In the ground and tower radio communications at Meilan Airport, players will face a variety of challenges posed by foreign airlines operating under the Seventh Freedom of the Air—adapting to English communications with different accents, handling inquiries about unfamiliar taxi routes, sequencing long-haul flights under a dual-runway independent takeoff and landing mode, and simultaneously managing the operational pressures of mixed traffic caused by technical stopovers by foreign airlines under the Free Trade Port’s low fuel price policy.

Including Meilan Airport in the game allows players to experience real-world Fifth Freedom air traffic control operations—unique in China—at the gateway to a five-star free trade port.
