Allow issuing instructions before the aircraft makes its call
Allow players to issue instructions to an aircraft while it’s waiting for a gap to make a radio call, rather than locking all instruction buttons until the aircraft actually calls. Currently, as soon as an aircraft starts waiting to call—for example, when approaching a runway to cross and about to request permission to cross—the instruction options are locked and none of the buttons work. But the ground controller could simply tell the aircraft to cross without waiting for it to ask, avoiding unnecessary delays. Real ATCs can call pilots directly if the frequency is busy and they can’t find a gap to make their request.
The same applies to other situations, such as switching to tower. ATC should be able to proactively check in with pilots instead of being blocked from interacting with an aircraft if the pilot hasn’t made an initial call. In live ATC recordings, when the frequency is busy and tower knows someone should be checking in but can’t find a gap, they simply ask, “[callsign], are you with me…?” and then continue with instructions.
